Have you ever heard that Friday is a “holiday” for Muslims? Some also say that this day is also the king of days. That’s how special the day is.

It was designated as a special day for a reason, but in its history, there are so many things that make Friday special in Islam.

Not only are there many special events, Friday is also filled with blessings so that it has advantages that we must learn and understand.

What are the advantages of Friday? Come on, see the 7 points below!

7 Priorities of Friday According to the Qur’an and Hadith

1. The reward of charity is multiplied

The virtue of the first Friday is related to charity.

Friday is a very good day to give charity.

In fact, on this day the reward you get if you help the less fortunate will be multiplied.

Allah SWT loves charity and reminds us to do so in QS Al-Baqarah verse 254 which reads:

Meaning:

“O you who believe! Spend out of what We have provided for you before the Day comes when there will be no trading, no friendship, and no intercession. Those who disbelieve are the wrongdoers.”

Prophet Muhammad SAW also conveyed the reward of charity which is multiplied through his hadith as follows.

“It has come to me from Abdillah bin Abi Aufa that the Messenger of Allah said, ‘Increase the recitation of prayers upon me on Friday, for the prayers are conveyed and I hear them.’ The Prophet said, ‘And on Friday the reward for giving charity is multiplied.’” (Imam Asy Syafii, al-Umm, volume 1, page 239).

2. The day the Prophet Adam was created

The next advantage of Friday is the day the first human and the first Prophet were created that we must believe in.

We certainly know that we all come from the descendants of the Prophet Adam.

As the first special human, it turns out that Allah SWT created him on Friday.

This knowledge is based on the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW which reads as follows:

Meaning:

“The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. On this day Adam was created, the day he was put into Paradise and the day he was expelled from Paradise. And the Hour will not occur except on Friday.”

According to Almanhaj, the hadith was narrated by Imam Muslim from Abu Hurairah RA.

3. The time when prayers are answered

Next, the virtue of Friday is that this day is the most appropriate day to ask Allah.

Pray a lot on Friday, because the Messenger of Allah SAW has said that this is the day when prayers are heard and answered by Allah SWT.

And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“‘On Friday there is a time during which if a Muslim performs prayer during it and asks Allah Ta’ala for something, his request will be granted.’ Then he gestured with his hand indicating the minimum time.” (HR. Bukhari No. 935)

There are several opinions about the time mentioned in the hadith, namely:

1. When the imam sits during Friday prayers until the worship is performed

This is based on another hadith which reads:

Meaning:

“From Abu Burdah bin Abi Musa al-Ash’arRadhiyallahu anhu that ‘Abdullah bin’ UmarRadhiyallahu anhuma said to him, “Have you heard your father narrate the hadith from the Messenger of Allah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam regarding the time of ijaabah on Friday?” Then Abu Burdah said, ‘I replied, ‘Yes, I heard my father say that, ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, ‘It is the time between the imam sitting until the prayer is performed.'” (Narrated by Muslim No. 853)

2. Until after Asr

The opinion about the time when prayer is answered is based on the hadith:

It means:

“Friday is twelve hours. No Muslim asks anything from Allah during that time but it will be granted by Allah. So hold on tight (remember that) the end of that time falls after ‘Asr.” (HR. Abu Daud No. 1048 and HR. Nasa’i No. 1389)

Well, Hijra has summarized what prayers are good to read on Friday, which you can read by clicking here.

4. Friday Prayer

The next advantage of Friday can be seen from the existence of special worship that is prioritized for men.

On Friday, Muslims are required to perform Friday prayers.

This is a special worship that is only done on that day.

Allah SWT commands us to carry it out, especially men, through QS Al-Jumu’ah verse 9.

Meaning:

“O you who believe! When the call is made to prayer on Friday, hasten to remember Allah and leave off trading. That is better for you if you only knew.”

In a hadith, the Prophet Muhammad said:

It means:

“Whoever bathes on Friday like Janaba baths and then goes to pray (on the first hour, which is earlier), then it is as if he has slaughtered a camel (in the way of Allah); and whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he has slaughtered a cow; and whoever goes in the third hour, then he has slaughtered a horned ram; and if someone goes in the fourth hour, then it is as if he has slaughtered a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour, then it is as if he has presented an egg. When the Imam comes out (i.e. starts delivering the sermon), the angels are present to listen to the sermon.” (Narrated by Bukhari No. 881 and Muslim No. 850)

5. The Surahs in the Quran are named after Friday

In the previous point, you have read that there is a surah in the Quran called Surah Al-Jumu’ah.

Quoting Muslim Hands, Allah SWT only mentions two days in the Quran, namely Friday and Saturday.

For Friday, it is not only mentioned, but there is a special surah for that day.

6. The Day of Judgment falls on Friday

The virtue of Friday is also marked by the determination of that day as the Day of Judgment.

This was explained by the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

In a hadith, he said:

And the best of days is Friday, because on that day Adam was created. On that day he was put into Paradise and on that day he was expelled from it. And the Hour will not occur except on Friday.” (Narrated by Muslim No. 854)

Although no one knows exactly when the Hour will be, it is certain that it will come on Friday.

7. The day of Islam was perfected by Allah SWT

The virtue of Friday is also due to the fact that it is the day on which our religion was perfected.

In the Qur’an, Surah Al-Maidah verse 3, Allah SWT says:

It means:

“It is forbidden for you (to eat) carrion, blood, pork, and (meat) of animals slaughtered not in (the name of) Allah, those that are strangled, those that are beaten, those that fall, those that are gored, and those that are torn apart by wild animals, except those that you have time to slaughter. And (also forbidden) those who are slaughtered for idols. And (it is also forbidden) to draw lots of fortunes with azlam (arrows), (because) that is an evil act. Today the disbelievers have given up hope of (defeating) your religion, so do not be afraid of them, but fear Me. This day I have perfected your religion for you, and I have completed My blessings for you, and I have approved Islam as your religion. But whoever is forced because of hunger, not because he wants to sin, then indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

From Umar bin Al Khaththab, there was a Jewish man who said:

{ الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمْ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا }

O Amir al-Mu’minin, there is a verse in your book which you recite, if it had been revealed to us Jews, We would have made it (the day it was revealed) a festival (‘Ied). Then Umar bin Al Khaththab said: “What is that verse?” (The Jew) said: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, and completed My favor upon you, and have approved for you Islam as your religion.” (QS. Al-Ma`idah verse 3). Then Umar bin Al Khaththab replied: “We know the day and where the verse was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ, namely on Friday when he ﷺ was in ‘Arafah. (Muttafaq ‘Alaih)

Subhanallah, there are so many virtues of Friday, huh?

In fact, these 7 things are not all the virtues of Friday that exist. There are so many good things

Therefore, from now on, do not waste the Friday that we go through and increase gratitude and worship, okay!
